Preparing for labour

People at your labour

Medical professionals

During your labour there may be midwives, doctors, midwifery care assistants, student midwives and student doctors present. Who is present will depend on where you are having your baby. How many will be present depends on your birth and how it is going. If you don’t want students present that is entirely your choice.

Labour companions

Having a birth partner/labour companion is beneficial as they are there to support you specifically. This can mean you have a better birth experience.

How many birth partners can vary from trust to trust (hospital to hospital) and also between the different areas of the hospital. You can choose any adult you wish to be your birthing partner.
